'Paint like an Artist'

As our second round of 'Paint like an Artist' at the Tairawhiti museum was yet again a huge success. Our first visit was the trigger for what has developed into a wonderful inquiry based learning unit. Kiwiana has proven to be a delightful reminder of just how fabulous New Zealand is.

Our second visit had us looking at three contempory New Zealand artists, Shane Cotton, Colin Cahon and Fatu Feu'u. There was a strong focus on how they represent their kiwi links in art. The techniquies of blocking, patterning, etching and layering were all explored and used to construct our representations of contempory New Zealand art. These are now proudly displayed in our classroom for all to see.
